THE HUNGER (GUTTEN ER SULTEN)

“Gutten er sulten” is a coming-of-age story about Jørgen (16) who is a fearless teenager.
Jørgen has spent much of his life on sports, but wants to change his life and tries to hang out with a new group of friends. Jørgen thinks he has great potential and will go far in life. He plays at his best and only card; his ability to be daring. Late one night, this leads him to seek out some local criminals to buy anabolic steroids and ecstasy.

This film is a visual and audible feast created by director Kenneth Karlstad. Karlstad has a strong style of storytelling, that few have. 

The movie is masterfully shot by cinematographer Pål Rokseth Ulvik, who is one of my favorite DOPs. 
His imagery is always exciting to colour, simply because he has good taste and knows how to visualize a story.

I had the pleasure to grade this 20 minute short film together with the director and DOP.
I especially enjoyed creating looks to differentiate Jørgen´s fantasy world and his everyday day “real life”. 
We could push the imagery quite far, due to the script and the fabulous work done on set.
