SOLAN OG LUDWIG: MÅNELYST I FLÅKLYPA

The illustrator and author Kjell Aukrust (1920-2002) was born in Alvdal, Norway. He has portrayed the bustling life of his home village in a personal and colorful way in a number of books. In his crazy parodies of village newspapers, “Folk og Fe" and "FlåklypaTidende", Aukrust created a most original cast and characters
in both his text and illustrations, with the countryside where he grew up as the setting.

We are talking national heritage here. His brilliant work has already laid the foundation for five animated feature films: "Pinchcliffe Grand Prix" (Flåklypa Grand Prix) from 1975, "Gurin with the Foxtail" (Solan, Ludvig og Gurin med reverompa) from 1998, "Solan og Ludvig - Jul i Flåklypa" from 2013, "Solan og Ludvig - Herfra til Flåklypa" from 2015 and the latest release "Månelyst i Flåklypa" from 2018.

Director Rasmus A. Sivertsen is back directing his third movie in the series, where we follow the characters on a journey to the moon! This is an action packed feature film that includes all the cool stuff from the Aukrust-universe and a lot more! The movie is the first Norwegian space-movie, that includes rockets, majestic spacewalks and action on the lunar surface.

This was the first time I have exclusively used Scene Linear EXR-files on a project. It gave me a huge huge dynamic range to work with compared to normal log-based workflows.
The benefits are manifold and enhanced the final result. We took great care to maintain all the details we could find in the ungraded footage. Setting the correct level for rocket engine thruster flames, the space exteriors and lunar scenes were the most challenging part of the grade.

This movie has been hand animated (stop motion) during the course of many months, the result is simply magical.

Together with a vast team of skilled animators, the classic town of Pinchcliffe (Flåklypa) has come to life again. Aurkrust´s characters are heartwarming. Qvisten Animation show craftsmanship at a superior level. All the sets where located in a large storage building, meticulously shot frame-by-frame by
DOPs Morten Skallerud and Janne Hansen.

The previous movies were huge box-office hits in Norway. I am sure this will be popular too!
