"Dag" is back, a new season, full of fresh weird stuff from Dag's rather twisted universe. The marital therapist Dag Refsnes has plenty of demons to handle, he is on the edge, and needs help, fast..... TV2s successful dark-drama-comedy continues.
The series features actor / comedian Atle Antonsen as Dag, Anders Baasmo Christiansen as his one-tracked-mind friend Benedikt, Agnes Kittelsen as Dag's playful secretary and the lovely Tuva Novotny as Eva.
In addition to playing "Eva", Tuva Novotny has directed one episode for the new series (ep4).
Director / writer Øystein Karlsen sat in the directors chair for the remaining nine episodes. Øystein Karlsen and Kristoffer Schau have made an intense script for season two. Everything is more extreme this season, taking you on an emotional rollercoaster, with international locations and a wide range of new interesting characters.
Among the new characters are Benedict's stepfather, who becomes Dag's own therapist, played by the well known Swedish actor Rolf Lassgård. He runs an alternative anti-addiction clinic and has some interesting views on life and how it should be led.
Danish actress Iben Hjejle plays a mysterious women from Eva's past, which add yet another twist to the tale. Sorry, no spoilers here...... 8-)
I had the pleasure to grade 5 x episodes of season one last year, this time I'm grading the entire 10 episodes of season two.
It's great fun to create more refined looks for the different locations and the new characters. Together with DOP Pål Bugge Hågenrud and the directors, we have created an "edgy" grade that we think complement the story.
In addition to the grade, I polished the images with subtle denoising and a slight hint of film grain. Which is a must have when treating DSLR-footage and the heavy compression of the source files.
If you are interested in the practical use of the Canon DSLR cameras, visit assistant camera operator Håvar Karlsen's brilliant blog that covers some cool behind-the-scenes stuff.
The first episode airs on Norwegian TV2, Thursday 22th September at 21:40. Don't miss it!
