Ploddy The Police Car (Pelle Politibil) has a wide appeal amongst the younger cinema audience in Norway.
The character Ploddy was created by a police officer called Åge Magnussen back in the 1980s, who used Ploddy to teach children about traffic safety.
The first live action TV-series was released in 1993 and became a big hit. It was followed up by a live action movie in 2002.
In 2010 "Ploddy the Police Car Makes a Splash" was released, which was the first animated CGI movie in the series.
Qvisten Animation did the CGI / animation, which included a lot of water simulations. The movie was directed by Rasmus A. Sivertsen.
This year Ploddy is back. Directed by the talented Rasmus A. Sivertsen and Rune Spaans.
Qvisten Animation have really done some brilliant work this time, what they have achieved has got a real "Pixar-look".
Lovable characters, organic, life-like animation and beautiful scenery. All of which have a special Norwegian feeling to it, giving a different vibe
compared to their American counterparts.
We follow the ever vigilant police car, Ploddy, who takes on the case of missing animals from the Eagle National Park. Criminals are at hand!
Together with his best friend Dottie (Oda) the otter he sets out to find the culprits.
Grading an CGI animation feature is a first for me. It has different creative challenges to cope with compared to grading live action features.
At the end of the day, it´s all about the story. Creating the correct mood for the emotion of different scenes, enhancing the characters performance,
making them shine and most importantly get the directors vision on the movie screen.
The Norwegian animation-community has really got a boost lately.
Several interesting feature films are planed, which start production soon. I´m looking forward to see what´s ahead!
Meanwhile check out the trailer for "Ploddy the Police Car on the Chase"!
The movie hits the cinemas 3. April 2013.
